During the Super Bowl last year, Quicken Loans ran an ad for its new "Rocket Mortgage" product. The ad began by saying "So here's what we were thinking..." and proceeded to outline their apparent dream/plan to solve all of the world's problems by making it easier for people to go into debt (tongue planted firmly in cheek). It was a brilliant example of vision casting for a consumerist/materialist worldview. This Sunday is our "Launch Sunday" in which we will cast a vision no less ambitious but built on very different foundations and with different goals. It is captured in the phrase "Drawing Near...Growing to Maturity...Ready to Bless". On Sunday I will present the vision we have to continue to grow into our identity as the people of God. Over the next year we envision drawing near to God as we develop a robust life of prayer as a congregation. We anticipate that as we do we will grow to maturity, pursuing intentional relationships of discipleship to gain proficiency in the skills of kingdom living as followers of Jesus. Finally, we believe that as we draw near and grow, God's Spirit who guides us will show us where He is working so that we will be ready to bless those to whom he directs us. So that's what we were thinking...
